This Blog was born from a wet day in Germany, looking at one of the many war memorials in that country and further investigation which led me to notice a lack of reference material with regards to the German Army in World War One.

My work on this project has been made easier by the World Wide Web, but with the information tools at my disposal it has been a constant battle to ensure that the correct information has been included.

This Blog is intended for reference, and will hopefully enable those with an interest in the German Army of World War One to look up with confidence the various units and organisations which contributed to the German war machine.

36th Reserve Division


This Reserve Army unit was formed in August 1914

The 36th Reserve and 1st Reserve Divisions combined to form the I Reserve Corps.

69th Reserve Infantry Brigade

21st Reserve Infantry Regiment

61st Reserve Infantry Regiment

2nd Reserve Jager Battalion

70th Reserve Infantry Brigade

54th Infantry Regiment

232nd Reserve Infantry Regiment

 1st Reserve Hussar Regiment

 36th Reserve Field Artillery 

 2nd Pioneer Company


The 36th Reserve Division was formed on the Eastern Front, and fought in all the major battles.  It was moved to the Galician Front in 1916, and was transferred to the Western Front in 1917.  It ended the war on the Western Front.

The Division was triangulated in September 1916.
