This Blog was born from a wet day in Germany, looking at one of the many war memorials in that country and further investigation which led me to notice a lack of reference material with regards to the German Army in World War One.

My work on this project has been made easier by the World Wide Web, but with the information tools at my disposal it has been a constant battle to ensure that the correct information has been included.

This Blog is intended for reference, and will hopefully enable those with an interest in the German Army of World War One to look up with confidence the various units and organisations which contributed to the German war machine.

2nd Bavarian Infantry Division


This Peacetime Army unit was formed in November 1815

The 2nd Bavarian and 1st Bavarian Divisions combined to form the I Bavarian Corps


3rd Bavarian Infantry Brigade

 Renamed as the 4th Bavarian Infantry Brigade on 2nd April 1915
3rd (Prince Karl of Bavaria) Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment
 20th (Prince Franz) Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment
  4th Royal Bavarian Infantry Brigade

 Renamed as the 21st Royal Bavarian Infantry Brigade on 2nd April 1915. Transferred to the 11th Bavarian Infantry Division.
12th (Prince Arnulf) Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment
15th (King Friederich) Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment
  2nd Royal Bavarian Artillery Brigade
  2/1st Bavarian Pioneer Battalion

At the start of the war the Division also consisted of 4th Kings Royal Bavarian Light Horse Regiment
